I believe my car is a lemon, however I have no way of proving that at present. My car is a 2023 VW Tiguan which I've had for about a year and a half. At first, everything seemed to be ok, the car ran good, it had AC, though it felt underpowered. Shortly after I passed 50k miles, however, that's when the problems started. The check engine light came on and I to it to AutoZone for a basic diagnostic. It came back with three error codes, all dealing with the engine's oil management, timing system, and cooling system. Googling this info online, I was shocked to discover that these problems were not only common with my car's engine type, but were considered serious and recurring enough to flag the car as a lemon. Apparently there is an issue with the crank case piston O rings that are the wrong size and thus don't seal well. Unfortunately for me, this came to light after my warranty period had expired at 50k miles (I bought the car at 39600 miles) which means I couldn't have it fixed under warranty. The dealer was asking $2500 minimum for any repairs, however, I'm on a fixed disability income which means I can't afford to fix the car. I learned there is a class action lawsuit against VW for exactly this but I don't know if it will help me as I've been unable to afford repairs and I'm not sure how much longer my car will operate. I've since had to replace the alternator and battery, after only a year of ownership, and every day it's a constant struggle having to add oil to the engine about every 30 miles or so. Oil is leaking from the exhaust pipes, the timing chamber, and various points around the engine because of this defect. I'm estimating that it's going to cost me at least $5k to hopefully fix all of these issues, but being a disabled veteran, there's no way I can cover this. So I'm asking for help from anyone whose able.
