I am seeking your help and support in completing my final semester in college. Whatever you can donate will help me to reach my goal in completing my final semester at NYU. Donations will be accepted until the end of May when i graduate.
My story:
My name is Stacey Ann Gibson and I am a senior student at NYU where I am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood and Special Education. It has always been my dream to become an educator but my journey has been a struggle after losing my mother while I was still in high school in Jamaica. Nevertheless, I was still determined to see my dream become a reality. After becoming a permanent resident in America I decided I would get my GED in 2015. However, I did not stop there; I decided that I would enroll in Bronx Community college to obtain my associate's degree. During my time at Bronx Community College, I was invited to join the Phi Theta Kappa honor society because of my hard work and commitment to my studies. I was enrolled as a full-time student and was still able to maintain a 3.8 GPA while I was also working a full-time job on campus to support myself. In 2018, I successfully completed my associate's degree at Bronx community college and was accepted into NYU with most of my school fees being covered in scholarships.
I was very elated to be given this opportunity as a first-generation student from a very small island to be able to attend such a prestigious college. However, once my journey at NYU started I was faced with many financial burdens as my program demands me to take seven classes every semester and to do approximately three days of student teaching in a public school. As a result, I was forced to go from being a full-time worker to a part-time worker. Therefore I have not been making enough money to cover my expenses. It has been a struggle for me because I do not have anyone to support me and although my school fees are being paid, I am struggling to pay my rent and other bills not because I don't want to work but I don't have enough hours to work. I was therefore forced to use up my savings and was also forced to take out two loans for the past two semesters to help with my living expenses. I was hoping I would be able to get a third loan to help me with my final semester. However, I was denied another loan.
This is my reason for seeking your help. Below I will list all the major expenses that I have to cover every month.
Rent $ 1000
Loan payments $358
Storage $147
Transportation $127
Phone bill $ 125
All these expenses add up to a total of $ 1757, not including food and other needs. With an associate's degree and only working three days a week, I am only making approximately $1000 every month which is only enough to cover my rent. Therefore, without a loan or without any support I will not be able to complete school because. I need an additional $1000 every month to cover all my bills which is approximately 4000 for the four and a half months I have left to finish school.
Please, I need your help to finish school. I am a very good, hard-working student with a 3.6 GPA at NYU. Whatever you can do to help I would appreciate it. No donation is too small. Thank you for your support.
