This family is a neighbor of mine and a special part of our little community in West Humboldt Park. After surviving domestic violence, they’re now facing another crisis: the mother of two was suddenly detained by ICE and transferred out of state immediately, leaving her children scared and fighting to stay together.
They have a court date on the 17th and need $1,500 for a legal retainer. The daughter has already raised $500, and we’re hoping to cover the remaining $1,000. If their mom is deported, they fear being sent back to a country where their abuser is still free and could harm them. The young boy is also at risk of being placed into government custody, while his sister — though old enough to care for herself — will be left caring for her brother alone.
Any additional funds will help with food, clothing, and basic security during this incredibly difficult time. Please donate or share if you can — every bit helps keep this family safe and together.
