An Update on Sawyer’s Journey ❤️
A family in our community is going through something no parent is ever prepared for, and they could truly use support right now.
A couple of months ago, Sawyer experienced his first sudden, unprovoked tonic-clonic seizure. It was completely unexpected and incredibly frightening. Since then, his family has been navigating doctor visits, testing, specialists, medications, and the emotional weight of not knowing exactly what the future holds.
At the time this fundraiser was originally created, we were just beginning this journey and hoping that with treatment and continued medical care, Sawyer would remain seizure-free.
Unfortunately, that has not been the case.
This week, in August, Sawyer experienced another unprovoked tonic-clonic seizure. This seizure happened despite him now being on seizure medication, and this time he was injured during the seizure. What was already an incredibly difficult situation has now become even more overwhelming and uncertain.
His family is once again dealing with emergency medical care, follow-ups with neurology, medication management, and the possibility of additional testing and treatment as doctors work to determine the best way to control his seizures and keep him safe.
And now, with school starting next week, there are even more challenges ahead. Sawyer will need additional support and monitoring as he returns to school, while his family continues trying to balance his medical needs with work and everyday responsibilities.
A lot of work has already been missed because of his seizures, emergency visits, appointments, testing, and caring for Sawyer through all of this. The time away from work has created a very real financial strain on top of the medical expenses and unexpected costs that have continued to accumulate.
We also want to be transparent about the funds shown on this fundraiser. The funds raised so far have already been used for medical expenses, everyday bills, medications, and gas and frequent trips to Akron for Sawyer’s care. The fundraiser is set up to transfer funds in weekly increments, and with his medical needs continuing, we are trying to keep the fundraiser going to help cover the expenses as they come.
The majority of funds raised will go directly toward Sawyer’s medical and family needs—including emergency care, neurological testing, specialist visits, prescribed medications, and other expenses related to his ongoing treatment. One of his rescue medications alone costs approximately $2,100, and ongoing care may require additional costly prescriptions and treatments.
As any parent would, their focus right now is on making sure Sawyer is safe, comfortable, and getting the care he needs. But the reality is that medical emergencies don’t pause the rest of life. Bills still need to be paid, work still needs to be missed, school is starting, and the costs of traveling to appointments and managing his care continue to add up.
Donations will help with:
Emergency medical bills and hospital care
Neurological testing, follow-ups, and specialist visits
Critical and rescue medications
Ongoing seizure treatment and potential long-term care
Gas and travel expenses related to medical appointments and frequent trips to Akron
Lost income from missed work
Everyday living expenses while his family navigates this ongoing medical crisis
Every dollar is intended to help support Sawyer’s care and give his family a little breathing room while they navigate something they never expected to face.
This fundraiser is still an initial goal, as costs are continuing to unfold and Sawyer’s long-term medical needs remain uncertain. We don’t know yet what the next few months will look like, how his medications may need to be adjusted, or what additional testing and treatment may be necessary.
Right now, they are simply trying to take things one day at a time. The continued support truly matters because these expenses are ongoing, and the funds already raised have been used to help Sawyer and his family through the expenses they’ve faced so far.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page, sending encouragement, and keeping Sawyer and his family in your thoughts and prayers means just as much. Every share helps reach someone who may be able to help.
Thank you for showing up with compassion, generosity, and support for Sawyer and his family during this incredibly difficult and uncertain time. ❤️
A family in our community is going through something no parent is ever prepared for, and they could truly use support right now.
A few weeks ago their son Sawyer experienced a sudden tonic-clonic seizure. It was completely unexpected and incredibly frightening. Since then, they have been navigating doctor visits, testing, and the emotional weight of not yet having clear answers. What they do know is that this is just the beginning of a long road that will likely include ongoing medical care, follow-ups with specialists, medications, and additional testing.
The majority of funds raised will go directly toward medical expenses—including emergency care, neurological testing, specialist visits, and especially prescribed medications. One of his rescue medications alone costs approximately $2,100, and ongoing care may require additional costly prescriptions and treatments.
On top of this, Sawyer and his twin sister spent their 11th birthday in Akron children’s, which added an emotional layer to an already overwhelming and uncertain time.
As any parent would, their focus right now is on making sure Sawyer is safe, comfortable, and getting the care he needs. Alongside that, they are facing very real financial strain from medical bills, time away from work, and the challenge of keeping up with everyday expenses during this crisis. There have also been unexpected out-of-pocket costs due to insurance complications, as well as frequent travel to and from medical appointments.
This fundraiser is simply meant to help bridge that gap—so they can focus on their child’s health without falling behind financially.
Donations will go toward:
Emergency medical bills and hospital care
Neurological testing, follow-ups, and specialist visits
Critical medications and potential long-term treatment
Travel expenses related to medical care
Basic living expenses during time away from work
Every dollar is intended to support Sawyer’s care, his medical needs, and everyday living expenses during this time.
If you’re unable to give, sharing this page and keeping their family in your thoughts and prayers means just as much.
This is an initial goal, as costs are still unfolding and long-term care is uncertain.
Thank you for showing up with compassion, generosity, and support during such a difficult and uncertain time.
