Katia has always been the kind of person who shows up for others. Quietly, faithfully, and without hesitation. Now, she needs us to show up for her.
In January of this year, Katia was diagnosed with stage 3–4 multiple myeloma, a serious and life-changing cancer. Since then, she has been facing this battle head-on with strength and grace, all while continuing to work full-time as a Dental Treatment Plan Coordinator . Even in the middle of chemotherapy treatments, she pushes forward. Still giving her all at work, in her faith, and at home.
Katia is a God-fearing woman who is deeply rooted in her Charlotte fellowship and community. Her faith has been her anchor through every storm life has placed in her path, and there have been many.
Years ago, Katia learned she was an unknown carrier of cystic fibrosis, a condition she unknowingly passed on to both of her children, Nadia and Malek. Her daughter Nadia, who had a more severe form of the disease, was diagnosed at just 2 years old. After enduring multiple long hospital stays and fighting courageously, Nadia sadly passed away at the age of 9.
In the midst of that heartbreaking loss, Katia’s husband, father to both of her children, struggled deeply with his mental health and ultimately left. Leaving Katia to carry the weight of everything on her own as a single mother.
Through it all, Katia never wavered.
She continued to pour her love, strength, and determination into raising her son Malek, who, thanks to ongoing treatments and medication, has grown into a respectful and resilient young man. Today, Malek is preparing to start college this fall. Even now, Katia continues to care for her two elderly parents, putting others before herself as she always has.
In the coming months, Katia will face one of the most difficult chapters of her life. She will undergo two procedures for a series of stem cell transplants beginning in June, in hopes of bringing her cancer into remission. While multiple myeloma is not curable, these treatments are critical to extending and improving her quality of life.
Due to the intensity of treatment and the high risk of complications, Katia will be unable to work for several months. This creates a heavy financial burden, medical bills, daily living expenses, and the cost of care will quickly add up.
We are asking for your support to help ease that burden so Katia can focus on what matters most, healing.
If you are able, please consider donating. No amount is too small, and every contribution will make a difference. If you’re unable to give at this time, we ask that you please share this Go Fund Me and keep Katia in your prayers.
Katia has spent her life lifting others. Now it’s our turn to lift her.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
