Loss of Jo & Support for Grandsons
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Chelsey. I’ve had the great pleasure of knowing the Carney family for over 20 years. In October of 2000, after fighting a long, hard battle with cancer, their family was shattered by the loss of Jack (an idol father and husband). Jo (now widowed) picked up the pieces, fearlessly raising Katie and Kristy to be the strongest, self-sacrificing women they are today. Together, these three could conquer anything.
In October of 2013, Kristy was blessed with her first son, Jack (in memory of her father). Less than 2 years later, Jack’s best friend, Luke, completed their family. Sadly Jack and Luke's father does not play an active role in their life. Kristy has had full custody and financial responsibility for most of the boy’s life. She works hard at juggling working full-time while raising two young children. Jo has always been there for both Kristy and her two grandchildren. She has been far more than a grandma to Jack and Luke- either living with them or seeing them nearly daily. Jo has created invaluable memories with the boys- picking them up from school to go swimming, hiking etc. when Kristy had other single mom life commitments.
Katie married her high school sweetheart. Together they reside in Montana and work hard to be successful business owners. Katie and Devin do everything they can to be the best aunt and uncle to Jack and Luke. Since they live out of state, they come to Colorado to visit as often as possible.
On November 11th, 2021, Katie and Kristy received the devasting news their mom, Jo was admitted to the hospital and not doing well. Just 3 short days later, Jo passed away. Jo was the most giving and generous, genuine person. She was fortunate enough to raise and watch her girls become some of the best women around. Her impact and memories on Jack and Luke’s life will never be forgotten although cut short. I know she wanted nothing more than for her loved ones, especially her grandsons to be happy and have all the support and necessities they need.
Just like Jo, both Katie and Kristy are such independent warriors, neither are ones to ask for help. Therefore, with gracious support and approval, I am asking for help on behalf of Jack and Luke. If you can help at all financially, every donation will be greatly appreciated!
Jack (8) and Luke (6) deserve the world. I would love to provide these boys with some extra help, especially this time of year. Funds would be used to give Jack and Luke the magical Christmas they should get to have at their age, despite missing such an important person in their life.
Additional financial help will be used for:
- Tutoring (they’ve missed a month of school)
- After school programs/care (Jo used to pick them up and these programs are costly)
- Counseling/Therapy sessions
- Short term meal delivery/restaurant gift cards to help provide quick healthy options. Not only is Kristy trying to grieve, but she is also spending a lot of time cleaning out Jo’s belongings etc.
- Vet/Dog Expenses- Jack & Luke love Aspen (one of Jo’s dogs) and have been able to transition her to live with them. Dog food has been an unexpected expense, but she also caused some damage to the house from separation anxiety while adjusting to changes.
Please feel free to reach out to me personally if you have any questions or are local and would like to offer help in any other ways.
The family is overwhelmed by all the messages and calls, forever grateful of your support! Thank you for taking the time to read this and spread the word during this very difficult chapter of life!
Life is too short, remember to make the most of it just like Jo did. You never know when your last day will be, so live it to the fullest!
