Flowers By Alexes is more than a flower shop. It is a living legacy built on love, family, and deep roots in Washington, DC’s Petworth community. Founded in 1990 by Bernard Haggins and lovingly named after his daughter, Alexes, the shop has always been a place where beauty, connection, and community come together. In 2021, Alexes invested her personal savings to reopen Flowers By Alexes and bring new life to a beloved neighborhood institution. Today, that dream is at risk.

An Urgent Moment

Due to a slow winter season, rising operating costs, and economic uncertainty, Flowers By Alexes has fallen behind on rent. Based on the terms of the leasing agreement, a notice has been issued requiring the balance to be paid within two days or the business will be forced to close immediately. Alexes has removed herself from payroll, invested personal funds, renegotiated vendor costs, and continued to show up for the community. Still, this moment has arrived.

The Ask

We are raising $15,000 to secure the future of Flowers By Alexes. This will cover back rent and immediate lease obligations, support 3 to 4 months of operating expenses during slower months, and create a small emergency reserve to prevent future crises.
