Dear Community, we are kindly asking for your much needed support. My name is Susana Rodriguez, and am the sister of Flor Rodriguez, well known by many as a hard working woman residing in our town of Durango Colorado. Many might know her from seeing her as a waitress at CJ's diner, and most recently the current owner of Tortillería La Flor; Durango's first tortilla shop, bringing freshly made tortillas everyday to the people of Durango. Flor has always dreamed of opening up her own business and finally made that dream a reality.
Flor and her Husband Joel, who is also the co-owner of Tortillería La Flor, worked very hard for many years to make their dream of being business owners in Durango a reality, in which back in November of 2021 during amidst of a pandemic, they finally achieved their goal! Being an inspiration to everyone around her.
Unfortunately, on Monday of May 2nd at 7:30am, while my sister Flor was working diligently in the morning working on making fresh tortillas, disaster struck. While Flor was preparing the tortilla dough into portions through on of the machines used to be made into tortillas, an accident happened that caused Flor's hand to be latched on by the machine. This left Flor's hand to be crushed and left in a terrible condition, causing a few of her fingers to be lost. It took around 45 minutes before she was able to get her hand unstuck with the help of Durango's wonderful Paramedics that arrived on the scene. During those 45 minutes, Flor endured terrible pain but trudged through it, showing her resilient and strong character.
Due to the accident her hand was left in a terrible condition which caused her to be flown immediately to Denver for more intensive care. She underwent a 6 hour operation in Denver. As though the doctors and nurses worked diligently to try and minimize the damage done to her hand, though they were unsuccessful in saving a few of her lost fingers, we are grateful to their wonderful team for working their best and hardest for Flor. She is currently in Denver Health located in downtown Denver recovering in the ICU.
When Flor was being taken to the hospital, she was telling her husband Joel, about different aspects of the shop. She was worried about how they still had some tortilla orders to fulfill and how they had planned on making special items for a cinco de Mayo celebration. This shows how selfless Flor is and deeply caring about her customers, and when it comes to serving the people of Durango, worrying about getting people freshly made tortillas before she worried about herself.
With Flor being in Intensive care, the financial toll that this will have on not only her, but her family as well is currently out in the open. That is something I would dislike my sister Flor in thinking, as her spending her energy towards steps to recuperation are far more important. That is why we are here, Humbling our hearts to ask for your support in donations to help cover medical and personal expenses that come with such a unforeseen accident.
As her sister I can say nothing but beautiful things about her, but people who are not related to her describe her as a fighter and resilient person who is a strong woman and mother.
My brother in law, Flor's husband, is currently with her in Denver, CO., leaving the tortillería closed until further notice. Please donations be made at the Bank of Colorado under Tortilleria La Flor/ Flor Rodriguez. Anything that you can donate will have a big thank you from us in the near future. God bless you and multiply you with more for helping us. As the word of God says in proverbs 17:17 "At all times a friend loves, and is like a brother in time of distress"
