My mother, Flavia Torres, is a vibrant woman in her 60s who brings warmth, faith, and strength to everyone around her. She is active in her community, loves her family deeply, and cherishes time with her church groups and loved ones. Right now, she is facing a serious medical crisis, and our family is asking for help.

For the last two weeks, my mother has been suffering from severe abdominal pain that has continued to worsen. She has now been hospitalized for several days, and despite ongoing care, her pain is still not under control and doctors have not been able to identify the cause. Her condition has become more urgent, and our small-town hospital does not have the specialists, advanced imaging, or resources needed to properly diagnose and treat her.

She urgently needs to be transferred to Managua (the capital), where she can receive more advanced diagnostic testing and specialized medical care. The hospital in Managua is much more expensive, but it offers the level of care she now desperately needs. Because her pain has been so severe, her blood pressure has risen to dangerously high levels, putting her at risk for a stroke or heart attack.

For friends and family in the medical field: her symptoms began two weeks ago with upper left quadrant pain after eating and continuous epigastric pain. We tried simplifying her diet, to liquids only one week ago but relief was inconsistent. Her pain then worsened significantly, and during hypertensive crisis her blood pressure reaches 220/112 and has continued to do so for the last several days. I instructed my brothers to take her to the ED, where she was admitted to a step-down unit. Her pancreatic enzymes are elevated, and she has now been NPO for 5 days without improvement. She needs more extensive diagnostic exams that are only available in the city.

In addition to her medical expenses, I also need to travel to Nicaragua as soon as possible to support her emotionally and help manage her care and logistics during this critical time.
