Hello everyone. This is Fitzwilliam. On Wednesday, January 14th at 8am, I found Fitz on the side of my house in Green Valley, bleeding and shivering in the cold morning air. Fitz was lost. Fitz had been attacked by coyotes, and so far had survived. Fitz had no collar or microchip.
As a family we decided we needed to get Fitz emergency help and look for his owners. We took Fitz to VCA Civano Animal Hospital on Tucson’s Southeast side. They were amazing! Fitz was there for two days; undergoing surgery and observation. They patched up all of Fitz’s puncture wounds. Last Thursday evening, I was able to bring Fitz home.
So far, we have been unable to locate Fitzwilliam's owners. If they are not found we have decided to adopt Fitz and share our home with him. Fitz is amazing and we love him already. Seeing his personality come out is truly wonderful. Watching him wag his tail for the first time and play with a toy he stole from Jasper, our 4 year-old Lab Mix. He is definitely starting to show his true colors and fit into the family.
But rescuing Fitzwilliam hasn't been exactly easy, financially. When you take a pet to the Animal Hospital you must take on full financial responsibility for the pet. We had no idea what to expect. We also didn't care. We wanted to help Fitz. His bill at Civano totaled more than $3000, and that was after we saved hundreds of dollars because of my Military Discount. Fitz's medical bill has been paid if full by our family along with the start-up costs of having a pet, like bedding, food, food bowls, a leash and collar, etc. If we are able to keep Fitz forever we will microchip and license him with the county.
Many people are following Fitzwilliam's recovery via Facebook and NextDoor. I will continue to update everyone as we all move forward. I am sure it will be an amazing journey.
