Who We Are
FIRSTxMIT is an MIT student organization of over 150 members dedicated to bringing hands-on STEM and robotics education to the broader New England community. FIRSTxMIT was founded by students who grew up in FIRST Robotics, a leading international K-12 robotics competition that ushers students into the engineering scene by inspiring confidence, teamwork, and community. We seek to advance the missions of both FIRST and MIT as we channel our experience into mentoring teams, supporting competitions, and expanding access to meaningful STEM opportunities for K–12 students across the region.
- Mission: To celebrate our members’ involvement, provide a community space for alumni, and create growth opportunities through public service.
- Vision: Build a strong, connected community of FIRST alumni at MIT to expand STEM access.
The "Robot in 3 Days" Challenge
Principled Design at MIT
This year, FIRSTxMIT is hosting MIT's inaugural Ri3D challenge. Teams will have just 72 hours to design, build, and test a functional robot.
This high-stakes engineering project mimics the demands of the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) season, fostering collaboration, leadership, and applied engineering skills under pressure.
Global Impact: We publicly release our designs and documentation, helping thousands of high school teams worldwide kick start their season.
Your donations empower our students to innovate and lead. These funds directly support fabrication, safety equipment, and the documentation needed to share our work globally.
