My name is Taylia Haughton, I am currently a college student at Central Connecticut State University that was just about to graduate when tragedy struck. On friday November 7th there was a terrible house fire at my house I share with 5 other roommates. The fire destroyed our home with smoke and water damages making our house uninhabitable.
I have been through two other house fires before which had taken everything from me, and my family has had a long history of homelessness so this has been a completely gut wrenching experience to be going through once again. I am financially all on my own, so being able to live here felt like an incredible accomplishment and i thought i had finally formed some form of stability. However, with this new fire I once again have to start all over again and I am completely distraught.
I have no place to live and no family that could assist me in this time of severe need. Given my tight financial situation as a student, I could not afford renters insurance, putting me in an even more vulnerable position. I had also just paid my rent before all this happened, so I was left with little to no funds to even support myself in the midst of this tragedy. I have to continue working and going to class in the midst of all of this, leaving me little to no time to really even plan during this whole thing.
I am asking for some financial help in order to fund temporary housing while I search for a new apartment and replace the things I’ve lost due to mold and mildew. I also need to help in order to finance a deposit, first and last months rent towards a new place to live and for the mental support that I am honestly desperately in need of.
I appreciate any support that can be given to me and my roommates at this time. If you cannot donate anything, please share my story! Time is of the essence, after this coming Friday I have absolutely no where to go as our landlord only provided us with a hotel room for the week. After that, we will be completely stranded. Thank you for anything you can do, your help means the world to me.
