On the last day of 2024, a devastating motorcycle accident threatened the life of Roy Jimerson, a dedicated firefighter with 19 years of service at the Durham (NC) Fire Department. His life was saved by an off-duty ER charge nurse who came up on the scene and applied a make-shift tourniquet to stop the critical loss of blood from his severely injured leg and foot. At the hospital, Roy received life-saving blood transfusions and has since undergone multiple surgeries to save his leg. Roy remains hospitalized with further surgeries ahead and the road to recovery will be long and painful.

Roy’s commitment to helping others extends far beyond his fire department duties. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, he selflessly provided aid to the hard-hit communities of Western North Carolina. Roy personally funded, collected, and delivered essential supplies like food, clothing, and building materials to those in need.

His integrity shone brightly in 2017 when he found and returned a significant sum of lost cash to its rightful owner, a story that touched all who heard it.
