Captain Filip (Fil) Spencer, also known as Fishman, is a well-known kayak fishing guide based in Corpus Christi, TX. Since the mid-80s, Fil has been a driving force in the kayak fishing world, sharing his skills and passion through his Fishman Guiding Service. Over the years, he has earned numerous accolades, including Texas Angler of the Year and National Kayak Angler of the Year, and has participated in the Shimano Pro Fishing tour. One of Fil’s greatest contributions to the sport was founding the charitable organization “Heroes on the Water,” which has helped countless people experience the healing power of fishing and the outdoors. Fil’s dedication to teaching, safety, and environmental stewardship has inspired many, and his kindness and generosity have left a lasting mark on everyone he meets.

Recently, Fil was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. As a small independent fishing guide, he does not have insurance to cover the mounting medical bills or the costs of traveling to MD Anderson for treatment. This diagnosis has forced him to stop working and sell his beloved equipment just to keep up with expenses. This has been a devastating blow to someone who has given so much to his community and the sport he loves.

Fortunately Fil has his soulmate, Brenda, by his side to help him navigate this horrible disease. As you can imagine, Brenda will lovingly be his chauffeur, home nurse, chef, and of course this will have a great impact on her financially due to the considerable time constraints away from work, and the emotional toll of watching her loved one suffer.
