Meet Fez — the heart and soul of Horsemanship Unlocked. Many of you know him as the steady, wise, and trustworthy trick riding schoolmaster who has taught countless riders courage, balance, and partnership. Before that, Fez was my personal professional performance horse, dazzling crowds with his athleticism and spirit. Today, he is the horse so many of you learn on, trust, and love.

This past weekend, Fez was rushed to the hospital with a severe colic episode. Colic is every horse owner’s nightmare, and in Fez’s case, it is suspected to be tied to a condition that can only truly be confirmed—or fixed—through surgery. Thankfully, his fighting spirit pulled him through, and surgery wasn’t needed this time. After a weekend in the hospital, Fez is back home—hungry, opinionated, and full of that older-horse sass we all adore.

I am endlessly grateful to the Stillwater Equine team, whose fast response and compassionate care made all the difference. Special thanks to Dr. Kati, whose skill and humanity are truly extraordinary.

In the past, when Fez has gotten sick, I’ve had to cancel summer camps, clinics, and lessons. I have shouldered the costs alone, too proud to ask for help. This time is different as my business is already navigating economic challenges and an upcoming move. I’m not asking for me—I’m asking for Fez. He is more than my horse; he is our horse. He has carried so many of you, given you confidence, and shown what true partnership looks like.
