We are reaching out to you today on behalf of our beloved friend, Katherine “Fire Eagle” Sternberg(FE). FE is one of the kindest souls you will ever meet. She has a deep love and respect for all people, animals, and the earth, embodying the spirit of community and compassion. A passionate fan of live music, especially the Grateful Dead and Phish, FE finds joy in the little things in life, from tending to her organic farm to getting lost in the vast beauty of the stars.

Unfortunately, she has recently faced an unimaginable challenge. In October 2024, FE was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer after undergoing a biopsy. Since then, her journey has been filled with uncertainty and hardship. She began a rigorous treatment plan including chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy. In total it will last over a year with a 60% chance of coming back in the next 5 years. This battle is not just a physical one but an emotional and financial struggle as well.

How Your Support Will Help:

FE's treatment journey is expected to be extensive, involving eight rounds of chemotherapy, surgeries, and ongoing tests. The costs associated with her care, travel, and maintaining her farm are overwhelming. Here’s a breakdown of how your generous contributions will assist her:

- Travel Expenses: FE travels from Ferndale to Eureka 4-5 times a week for treatment, costing approximately $120 for gas twice a week.

- Farm and Pumpkin Patch: With spring planting approaching, FE needs $10,000 to get her farm and pumpkin patch started. This venture is not just her passion; it’s a source of income that typically nets her $7,000 to $10,000 a year, which she relies on for taxes and expenses.

- Ongoing Living Expenses: Property taxes are $6,000 per year, while property insurance is $330 per month. She also has monthly utility bills (PG&E - $120) and costs for firewood ($500) and livestock feed ($75 weekly).

- Animal Care: Livestock include 7 alpacas, 2 horses, 4 chickens, 3 cats and 1 dog. Ensuring their health and well-being during her treatment is crucial, with costs for food and medical care adding up.

- Therapies and Future Needs: As she navigates her treatment, FE will also require lymph drainage therapies and ongoing tests to monitor her health, particularly given the aggressive nature of her cancer.

FE’s spirit is unyielding, but she cannot do this alone. Your support will not only alleviate her financial burdens but also provide her with the peace of mind to focus on her recovery.
