Support Fernando's Fight Against Leukemia

Hi, my name is Donna, and I'm fundraising for one of my dearest friends, Fernando Ortiz. On Tuesday, May 28, Fernando fainted twice while shopping at a local Target in New York City and ended up in the hospital. He was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a rare form of the disease. He needs to remain hospitalized for at least a month and is undergoing intense treatment, including blood transfusions and chemotherapy at New York Presbyterian. As treatment progresses, he most likely will undergo bone marrow/stem-cell transplants. As an out patient, he will need ongoing treatment and home care.

I've never done a GoFundMe campaign before, and those who know me know I don't take this lightly. Fernando's medical bills, even with insurance, will be staggering. I know, because I was there myself 11 years ago when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I asked Fernando how I could help, and this was one way, especially since he is not on social media. Many of you in my network know Fernando since we've been close friends for more than 30 years and you've either met him on visits to New York or when he traveled with me to Chicago and Joliet. Or perhaps I met you through Fernando. He has myriad friends from so many worlds. If so, you also know what a special person he is.
