Fernando's in post-surgery recovery now.
(It all started) When, after nights of intolerable pain, Fernando couldn't take it anymore, and went to the ER.
That was when, at the base of his spine, they found an infected Pilonidal Cyst— a painful one, at that. It was deep and very close to the spinal nerves, causing unbearable pain. His diagnosis posed an extremely high risk of sepsis, leading to emergency surgery.
His surgery took place almost a month ago, on June 26th.
After the surgery, recovery has been difficult. Fernando has an open wound that causes him excruciating pain most of the time. Not only that, but the wound cannot be left alone, as it requires constant care, disinfecting treatments, and repacking.
To add insult to injury, the doctors have recommended the implementation of a Wound Vac, but it is not covered by insurance. This device costs 160 USD a day, (not including the supplies) and the doctors have yet to give an estimate as to the amount of time it is needed for.
As you can imagine, it's been a difficult time for him. (As it would be for anyone in his place).
The doctors have prohibited any sudden movements, and even sitting down. Fernando can't do anything other than focus on recovery right now.
Even in his current position, he has been grateful to all the medical staff that has treated him with patience and compassion.
Needless to say, Fernando's been through a chain of unfortunate (medical) events and has fallen on tough times. Now, he is at risk of losing his job, and the bills are piling up. Doctors still don't know when he will be fit to sit down or do anything at all -- which leaves us where we are now, at the mercy of kind strangers who may help.
The money we raise through this campaign will go straight to Fernando's medical debt.
On the off-chance that your kindness overflows, Fernando will allocate those funds to future doctor visits, as he continues to heal.
As one of Fernando's closest friends, I would be extremely grateful to see him receiving kindness and grace from anyone willing to help.
Thank you in advance, and have a blessed day!
