Hi,
My name is Drew Silver and I am the filmmaker and archivist behind Fenland on Film.
Fenland on Film is all about posterity - the capturing and preservation of moments, people and places in the Fens for future generations.
When it comes to my own films, I shoot them with vintage camera equipment using Kodak motion picture celluloid film - Super 8 & 16mm.
The aesthetic of this medium is unrivalled in my opinion, it's simply magical and I believe it stems from the physicality of the film process - the chemical reaction that occurs on the acetate at the moment of being exposed to light.
Shooting on celluloid puts a greater emphasis on production quality and the consideration put into each shot at the time of filming because the film itself is extremely precious and limited - not to mention expensive!
I also work to preserve vintage / historical films entrusted to me. The best example being over 1000ft of original colour 16mm film shot in 1939. The quality of my preservations are unlike most heritage film you're likely to have seen before. I insist on the highest quality and standards - preservation to digital 4K and restoration, undertaken by the best people in the industry.
I'm only limited by not having the appropriate funding to grow the project and save more film.
I've met some wonderful people in the industry and made some great connections that mean I have the highest quality production elements at my disposal for a fraction of the usual cost - all I need now are the funds to effectively utilise this.
