Support Felecia's Fight Against Leukemia
Donation protected
This account was created to benefit Felecia St. Laurent and her family through very a difficult time.
On January 17, 2024, Felecia went to her doctor for an appointment after routine bloodwork was returned with alarming abnormalities. Due to the abnormalities, Felecia was immediately taken to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa where she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) starts in the bone marrow (the soft inner part of certain bones, where new blood cells are made), but most often it quickly moves into the blood, as well. It can sometimes spread to other parts of the body including the lymph nodes, liver, spleen, central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). Most often, AML develops from cells that would turn into white blood cells (other than lymphocytes), but sometimes AML develops in other types of blood-forming cells. The different types of AML are discussed in Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) Subtypes and Prognostic Factors (Cancer.org).
Initially, doctors were optimistic about attempting a new type of clinical trial treatment with Felecia. That treatment, unfortunately, was not as successful as they were initially hoping it would be. Traditional chemo treatments were then begun. After numerous rounds of chemo spread over the course of many months, there is still more to be done. During the chemo treatments, her loving husband Roger has driven her back and forth from Sebring to Tampa on a daily basis for weeks at a time. While Felecia does have health insurance through her employer, there are obviously many expenses which are not covered. As one could imagine, the cost of fuel alone adds up quickly driving from Sebring to Tampa as frequently as they have had to do.
Felecia will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant procedure in the near future in order to help her battle this cancer. While the transplant will be very beneficial for Felecia, it does not come without its own set of financial hardships. Felecia will have to stay at Moffitt for approximately one month after the transplant and then two months in Tampa afterwards (with a 24/7 caretaker) so that she is close to Moffitt just incase there are any unwanted side-effects or rejection issues. The costs just keep adding up. All of this is going on while they are trying to maintain a normal life for their young daughter, Arabella.
The funds generated in this fundraiser will be used to help the St. Laurent family with incidental costs and pay off cards used to pay for costs thus far. After all the bills are taken care of, if there are any remaining funds, they will be provided to Moffitt Cancer Center to assist other families.
