My name is Felecia and I’m raising money for bills so my family doesn’t lose our home.

My mom moved to Louisiana almost two years ago, and I moved here in October of 2024 with my son due to unforeseen circumstances. My boyfriend and his children came down a few months later, and we got a bigger place. Then, on Saturday, July 5, I had to leave work early to take my mom to the hospital. I got a text saying she was coughing up blood. I immediately called her to see if I needed to take her. She could barely talk due to not being able to breathe. She said no, but I said, 'I’m taking you.' We get to the hospital, she gets seen by the doctor, and we leave a couple of hours later.

I asked her what they said, and she said pneumonia. Then she also said they found a mass on her lung and liver. We talked to the pulmonologist, set a date for the biopsy, and went from there. Well, on Wednesday, July 30, we got the gut-wrenching news: Stage 4 Adenocarcinoma small cell lung cancer.

I haven’t said much to anyone about this, just those closest to me. I know I’m still trying to process it, and I’m sure my mom is as well.

We went to the oncologist on Aug 6, and he said it was treatable but incurable. So now we’re just waiting for the PET scan appointment and tissue sample of the biopsied tumor.

I have been having to leave work early, call out, or request days off, and it’s been hard, especially on my mom because she can’t work, so all the bills are on me and my boyfriend. And with being in the South, their minimum wage is still $7.25/hr, so you know the jobs out here don’t pay much. So anything you can donate would be a big help for us to be able to pay our bills. Even if it’s just to pay our rent which is $1000/month. My boyfriend is a server and makes what he can but doesn’t make much.
