Support Family with Smoke Damage to Home from SoCal Fire
Donation protected
My name is Debbie and I live in Ohio. My daughter, son-in-law, and 9-year-old granddaughter live in Pasadena, California, within the Mandatory Evacuation area of the Eaton Canyon fire.
They have been displaced since the evening of January 7 when they could see the fire on the mountain near their home. The Santa Ana winds were blowing fiercely, and hot embers were scattering the fire in their neighborhood.
Many homes in their neighborhood succumbed to the devastation, and many families were left with smoldering ashes.
While my daughter's home survived the devastation around them, they are unable to move back in because of the smoke damage. Toxic ash covers their yard and roof, and it made its way into their garage and attic. Water in her neighborhood is not potable. The air is toxic as the ash and debris blow around. My granddaughter's school will not reopen for 2 more weeks. My daughter and her husband started going to the house to assess the smoke damage and start the cleaning process on their days off from work. They are anxious to get back to some form of “normalcy” but find it necessary to mitigate the toxic situation inside their home first.
Clothing, towels, bedding, toys, literally everything will have to be laundered/cleaned. My daughter is trying to wash walls and floors herself. She will have to replace kitchen items and food once they return home. The attic and crawl space will have to be inspected and toxic ash removed if necessary. Items that cannot be rid of the smoky smell and toxins like rugs, upholstered sofas and chairs, mattresses, etc., will have to be replaced.
She is grateful to have more than many people around her who lost entire homes/memories, but she is also extremely overwhelmed with monumental grief and loss around her and figuring out the steps she will have to take to get her family safely back home.
Many have asked if there is something they can do to help, and your concern and offers are appreciated more than you’ll ever know.
If you have it in your heart to help, donations will be used to help them replace necessary items, mitigate ash/smoke damage, and get them back home.
Thank you so much. ❤️
