Hello everyone,
Our names are Marsha, Shana Headley and Levine Shakespeare, and we grew up in a small, beautiful community in Westmoreland, Jamaica that has recently been devastated by Hurricane Melissa. Even though we no longer live there, that community will always be home, the place that raised us, shaped us, and taught us what love and unity truly mean. We are raising funds for our families and friends (the community).
Our community sits far from the main town, and because of that, help rarely reaches them in time when disaster strikes. This hurricane has left many families with nothing: homes destroyed, roofs gone, and lives completely turned upside down.
What hurts most is that two of our churches, which used to be shelters during storms, are gone, and even the local school was badly damaged. Now, families with babies and young children have nowhere safe to sleep at night.
To make things even harder, there’s no electricity, and it may be weeks or even months before power is restored. People are struggling to keep food from spoiling, to charge their phones, and to have light after dark.
We started this fundraiser because we can’t just sit by and watch the place we love suffer. With your help, we hope to provide:
• Food and clean drinking water
• Clothing, blankets, and hygiene supplies
• Temporary shelter for displaced families
• Solar-powered lights and chargers so homes aren’t left in darkness
• A few small community generators for shared use at the church or central area
• Support to repair and rebuild damaged homes, starting with families who’ve lost everything
We will be working alongside the local church leaders and trusted volunteers to make sure the help reaches those who need it most. Every dollar will go directly to families in the community.
While we may not be able to rebuild every home, we can help enough families so they can begin to help others, creating a chain of love and recovery; just like we’ve always done back home.
Every donation, no matter the amount, brings us closer to giving these families light, shelter, and hope again. If you can’t donate, please share this page so that more people can see and support this cause.
If you would like to donate food, clothing, blankets, or other essential supplies, please contact us at [email redacted]
to arrange pickup. Donations can also be dropped off at Southside Cantina, 244 Lower County Rd, Dennis Port. If no one is there, it’s fine to leave your items—just send us an email, and we’ll make sure they are brought inside safely.
All donations will be shipped directly to our community in Jamaica. Every contribution, whether monetary or in-kind, truly makes a meaningful difference.
Let’s remind this beautiful community that they are not forgotten.
