On August 10, 2025, a catastrophic storm hit the island of Sao Vicente, Cape Verde. Seven people died and many more are still missing. For anyone who knows me, this is where I served in the Peace Corps and also where my wife is from and almost all of her family lives. I am setting up this GoFundMe in order to directly fund relief efforts on the island. I am planning on donating the money to an organization called ICCA, the Institute of Cape Verdean Adolescents and Children) - they work as part of the Child Services wing of the government but have an account for donations supporting this storm where I will be donating.

The funds will buy children who live in the shelter system of Sao Vicente (Cape Verde) new mattress, clothing, and school supplies. Directly after the storm it was hard to know where to send this money in order to make sure it has the most impact. I've spoken with the director of ICCA who has promised a full accounting and transparency on the spending of each dollar on the ground.

Once this money has been transferred, I will send it through bank wire to the ICCA donation account.
