As part of the Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) project, the 2026 Lick-Wilmerding High School Ethnic Studies elective class collectively identified ICE Enforcement as an issue impacting our communities. We sought to organize an action which the LWHS community could participate in to support those most impacted by forced family separation, illegal detention, and other negative effects of ICE enforcement.
Based on survey data collected, about 72% of LWHS students expressed willingness to support a fundraiser benefiting individuals and families impacted by ICE. In response, we are organizing a fundraiser to which proceeds will go to The Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity, a California-based organization that aims to protect immigrant communities by supporting those detained by ICE and advocating for a more humane immigration system.
For many immigrant families, ICE enforcement is not just a political issue, it is an ongoing fear that affects everyday life. Many individuals live with the anxiety of family separation, detention, legal woes, and losing loved ones without warning. These fears can impact mental health, education, stability, and a sense of safety within one’s own community.
As students, we believe it is important to stand in solidarity with those affected and use our platform to support organizations doing meaningful work. Any donation, no matter the amount, helps support immigrant families and communities facing these challenges every day.
Thank you for supporting our effort and helping us create a more compassionate and informed community!
