We are a group of advocates who work with women, men, and families who have experienced domestic abuse and/or sexual violence and are seeking advocacy and support services.
We are working with a group of women, men, and families who have fled violence in their home country and are re-settling in Minnesota. They are adjusting to the language, culture, and cold weather of our great state, as well as engaging where possible with social service and transportation systems, school systems, and health care systems.
We often find the greatest needs in the gaps-- urgent transportation needs at all times of day or night, over-the-counter medicine that is beyond their budget, self-care, hygiene, pregnancy, baby care and child care needs not easily met through existing supports, and learning and educational supply needs that can't always be a priority over other more primary needs.
It's part of our advocacy work to help people find creative solutions for their needs. This is why we are asking for cash donations instead of gift cards or new items. Teaching how to access second-hand, discount stores, online community sales apps such as Facebook marketplace or Next Door, will support financial independence.
We're asking for any donation amount that is possible for your families this season.
With best holiday wishes and deep gratitude,
The Advocacy Team
