No ICE Philly organized a non-violent direct action on Sunday, 3/29 in the largest Target on the East Coast: King of Prussia, PA. Over one hundred peaceful protesters responded to the call from No ICE MN for actions at Target nationwide, part of a public pressure campaign to stop corporations from cooperating with ICE. This action successfully built on the momentum of No Kings protests (3/28) and spotlit the powerful local organizing happening in MontCo, a county with 100,000 immigrants and over 125 confirmed ICE detentions that just won a yearlong fight to become a welcoming county. This powerful demonstration was staged in the spirit of faithful resistance, led by local clergy and people of conscience throughout Philadelphia's collar counties.
The generous contributions of supportive community members like you inspired a mutual aid initiative that offered hot food and fresh fruit to be shared with community members (Target customers, employees, etc.) in addition to literature that raised public awareness about how the Target corporation is not only complicit in our current immigration crisis, but directly cooperating with and funding the Trump administration. This demonstration culminated in eleven peaceful protestors being temporarily detained in the Upper Merion Township Police Department. According to the arresting officers, the nature of their offenses were being "unwanted persons at Target" that "continued to sing with a group" with "intent to cause public inconvenience" (direct quotes from individual tickets). As a result, everyone received summary offense charges amounting to over $5,500 in collective fines and individual criminal records if convicted. Your contribution to this mutual aid fund will help to cover the necessary cost of legal expenses, as defendants prepare for public trial on April 28th represented by a trusted attorney working with Up Against the Law.
