Support Facundo Mondragon's Family After Loss

My father, Facundo Mondragon, passed away on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025, at Baptist Hospital after battling complications from cirrhosis.

On January 7th, he suddenly vomited blood and was rushed to the hospital, where he was given a grim prognosis that he likely would not make it through the night. For three entire weeks, he stayed strong and tried his hardest to fight to stay alive. In those first two weeks, my dad endured losing 80% of his blood, went into septic shock and hypovolemic shock, had multiple blood transfusions, pneumonia, a heart attack, a stroke, and 2 seizures. He was diagnosed with end-stage liver disease and a blood clotting disorder, which made it difficult to stop the internal bleeding. He also had a kidney injury and was put on dialysis. He was unconscious and on life support for 7 days, and his family and friends prayed for a miracle to happen, and it did. We were able to have a few good days and thought he would be okay. We could tell something was very wrong mentally, but we chalked it up to the ICU, the long hospital stay, and everything else he had gone through. He kept insisting on being allowed to go home, and he got his last wish.

The very next day after going home, he ended up at the hospital again for bleeding gastric varices and now gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Once again, he lost most of his blood and had blood transfusions, but this time there was no recovery, and it just got worse each day for a whole week. His liver had completely failed, his blood would no longer coagulate, and his kidney was shutting down as well. He was in respiratory distress, and his lungs were not functioning very well. His heart was showing signs of being in distress and could no longer pump blood efficiently as he was losing blood constantly.

He passed away on Tuesday, January 28th, exactly three weeks after going in on Tuesday, January 7th. He was not alone, and his daughters and son-in-law were there for him until the very end. Earlier that day, he had 15-20 friends and family in his room with the chaplain praying for him as he started to transition and to bring peace and comfort to those left behind. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior just the day before, so we know he is in better hands now, and there’s nothing else that can hurt him. His suffering is over, and there is some peace in knowing that at least he is not in pain.

We are all devastated to have Facundo leave us so early at the age of 50. He was so loved amongst his friends and family and will be dearly missed. His family is now having to sort through things and figure it out as he did not have a will. This GoFundMe will be used for any expenses incurred after his death, including excess funeral costs, medical and hospital bills not covered by insurance, bills, insurance, and upkeep of the house, lost income of his children due to not working during hospitalization, the care of his 25-year-old son who is autistic, and a probate lawyer to ensure things are done properly. We appreciate any and all assistance.

Agradecemos cualquier ayuda.
