SUPPORT EWAN FLEMING - A TRUE PARATROOPERS LAST BATTLE.
Donation protected
My name is Eddie Geissler, and I’m the Secretary of the Tayside Branch of the Parachute Regiment Association.
I’ve had the honour of knowing Ewan Fleming, our Chairman, for over 40 years.
Ewan is more than a colleague — he’s a trusted friend, a man of integrity, and a paratrooper through and through. He’s someone who has spent his life standing up for others, never asking for anything in return. Now, as he faces the toughest fight of his life, we have the chance — and the duty — to stand up for him.
This GoFundMe page is for Ewan — a hero, a leader, and a true servant of his country.
Ewan gave 34 years of service to the British Army, including operational tours in Northern Ireland, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Many will remember him from the iconic 1983 BBC documentary The Paras, where he was featured as a young recruit of 480 Platoon, being forged in the fire of one of the Army’s toughest regiments: The Parachute Regiment. Even now, at 66, Ewan lives by the Regimental motto Utrinque Paratus — “Ready for Anything.”
But nothing could have prepared him for this.
For the last ten years, Ewan has been battling Parkinson’s disease — a cruel and progressive condition that’s slowly robbing him of the very traits that once defined him: Strength, independence, and control. It’s painful to witness this happening to such a proud and capable man. And yet, in true Airborne spirit, Ewan refuses to give in.
His next mission is a courageous one: Ewan is now seeking Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), a specialist neurological procedure that has the potential to dramatically improve his quality of life. While Parkinson’s has no cure, DBS offers real hope — a chance to reduce his symptoms and regain some of the independence he’s lost.
But this treatment comes at a cost, and time is not on his side.
Ewan has always been there when his comrades needed him. Now, it’s our turn to be there for him. Whether you served with him, were inspired by The Paras, or simply believe in supporting our veterans — please consider donating. No amount is too small, and every single contribution brings Ewan closer to the care he so urgently needs.
The total cost of the procedure is £85000 and with the backing of Support Our Paras, SSAFA The Armed Forces Charity and yourself this is the ultimate aim.
We’ve included two short videos that will help you understand what DBS involves, and what it could mean for Ewan:
1. What is DBS? – A brief explanation of the procedure and how it works.
Life After DBS – The inspiring transformation of a former Royal Marine with Parkinson’s at a similar stage to Ewan. See what’s possible. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIaVRFaKgT5/?igsh=MWxyMXZzcXIyeWZzbQ==
Let’s rally behind a man who has given so much.
