My niece, Evie Jo was diagnosed in utero with a ventricular septal defect (VSD) — a hole in the wall between the lower chambers of her heart. while everyone hoped this would be the only challenge she would face, her journey quickly became more complicated.
When Evie Jo was just 9 days old, she was taken to the emergency room and admitted for hospitalization. During that hospitalization, doctors discovered an additional heart defect: an atrial septal defect (ASD) — a hole in the wall between the upper chambers of her heart. learning that there was more wrong with her heart, was devastating.
With of these defects, Evie Jo’s heart has to work much harder than it should to circulate blood and oxygen. Doctors have told us she will need at least two heart surgeries that will require medical transport, with the possibility of up to four as she grows. Her care involves frequent cardiology appointments, testing, hospital stays, medications, and careful monitoring of feeding and weight gain. For babies with heart defects, even eating can be exhausting.
While her parents are incredibly grateful for Evie Jo’s medical team, the reality of caring for a medically complex newborn comes with immense emotional and financial strain. Between emergency hospitalizations, specialist care, surgeries, travel, and time away from work, the costs add up quickly.
We are all taking this one day at a time, holding onto hope, and celebrating every small victory. any donation — no matter the amount — will help relieve some of the financial burden so her parents can focus on what matters most: Evie Jo’s care, comfort, and healing.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page or keeping Evie Jo in your thoughts and prayers means more than we can say. Thank you for being part of her journey.
