Our beautiful niece Evie has been a fighter since the day she arrived. I’ve watched my sister’s gorgeous family navigate her T21 diagnosis with a level of strength and love that still blows me away. Even in those early days, when everything was uncertain and overwhelming, they created the most joyful, loving home for their family of four (plus the dog‑children!).
They never once let fear define her life - only love!
Evie is growing up surrounded by laughter, silliness and a family who would walk through fire for her. She is happy, adored, and absolutely herself. We’ve always said they’re the lucky few.
But now they’re facing something no family should ever have to face.
On Friday 20th February, Evie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML). She’s been unwell on and off for a couple of months, and my sister Keelie - with her husband James - have been pushing for answers because they knew something wasn’t right. None of us ever imagined it would be this.
The diagnosis alone is devastating, but what people don’t see is everything that comes with it. The emotional shock. The logistics of suddenly having to live in a hospital 70 miles away from home. Trying to keep their family connected while being miles apart. Worrying about their wonderful son Reuben, and their pets. The financial pressure of neither parent being able to leave Evie’s side, and therefore being unable to go to work for the foreseeable future.
They are at the very start of a steep climb, but if you know this family, you know they are fighters!! And Evie - kind, funny, clever and brave little Evie - is the toughest of them all. She has already been through more in three years than most adults face in a lifetime, and she meets every challenge with a strength that puts us all to shame.
I’m setting up this GoFundMe because Keelie and James would NEVER ask for help themselves, but they desperately need it. The next few months will be incredibly hard - emotionally, practically, and financially. Every donation will help ease the pressure so they can focus on the only thing that matters: being with Evie through every step of her treatment.
If you can donate, share, or simply send love and positive thoughts, it means more than you’ll ever know. This family is carrying so much, and any support will help to lighten the load.
Thank you for standing with them, and thank you for loving our Evie
With love,
Robyn (Evie’s very proud auntie)
