First I would like to introduce sweet Everlee. Everlee is very active and is the happiest (almost) 10 month old who will always greet you with a big smile. Little Everlee has been faced with a few challenges in her young life. Everlee was born with a few congenital defects - one being a hole in her heart that will not close on it’s own. On August 18th Everlee was scheduled to have open heart surgery to repair the hole. When prepping for surgery, the anesthesiologist found an area of her trachea that was very narrowed and actually only had a diameter of a few millimeters (smaller than the size of an airway of a micro preemie baby). This was very shocking to the medical team and Everlee’s parents because Everlee had been at risk for blockage of her airway without anyone knowing.
Due to this, the medical team had to postpone her heart surgery in order to repair her airway. They performed a procedure to widen that area of her airway which required Everlee to be on a ventilator for almost a week.
Unfortunately, Everlee developed quite a bit of scar tissue in her trachea following that surgery which meant that she had to go back in for another surgery to remove the scar tissue. Because of this, Everlee is now back on a ventilator and will remain on the ventilator for at least a week. She will also require another surgery on Monday to place a graft in order to stent the area and hopefully keep her airway nice and open, allowing her to breathe well. If this does not work then she may face more surgeries to repair her airway.
Because they were not able to complete the heart surgery, Everlee will still need to undergo a surgery to repair her heart in the coming months.
As you can imagine, this has been very difficult both physically and mentally for Everlee and her parents. Please if you are able, help this sweet family with the mounting medical bills that they are facing.
A little excerpt from an update from Everlee’s momma, Naomi - “I have to brag on my little girl for a moment… with a heart defect, as explained by the surgeon, equivalent to running 5 miles after every meal.. and breathing through an area with a diameter of just a few millimeters, Everlee has met every milestone. She is active, crawls, pulls herself up to a standing position and still gains weight… even if it is just a little. She is so strong, my baby girl.”
