Support Evelyn's Transition Healthcare

Hello!

As many of you may already know, my name is Evelyn. I'm a 33-year-old transsexual woman currently based in Brooklyn, NY. It's actually taken my entire life to get to a place where I could do this, but I have spent the last two years transitioning and I'm at a point where I need to ask for some help.

Being trans is honestly more expensive than most people could imagine and already two years in, my income has been sucked dry by this. It's not just the cost of clothing, body products and the ungodly cost of hair removal treatments (I am still paying for one year of laser and unfortunately still need much more) - the difficulty I’ve had finding stable work as a trans woman with a construction background has been decimating.

I have thankfully started a new career in A/V technology, but it is far from stable enough to keep me afloat in the face of my unique life expenses. On the other hand, every time I look for new work that I am well-qualified to do, I run into roadblocks when it comes to my name and gender - things I am mentally and now legally unable to compromise on. I have been able to carry myself through slow seasons of work on DJ gigs, track sales, mixing and mastering services and odd jobs, but it’s not stable enough to get me through when I am looking at the cost of transitioning.

Ahead of me, I have major gender-affirming surgeries. I should be able to get the work that I need done covered by my insurance plan, however I am not sure how I will be able to take time off of work to recover. I also need to handle debt from other transition healthcare not covered by my insurance policy and I would like to be able to re-locate to somewhere more affordable within the city while I handle these healthcare needs, so I’m putting my hand out.

The result of these surgeries will not only manifest in better passing as a woman in the world, but create everyday conditions conducive to my mental health, all of which will significantly increase my chances of financial sustainability, but for now I just need some help getting there.
