Evelyn Valdez is my mom, and she has always been the heart and strength of our family. Growing up, she worked three jobs just to make sure we had what we needed, often putting her own needs aside. Now, at 73, she is facing one of the toughest battles of her life—breast cancer. The medical expenses are overwhelming, and as her child with a mental disability, I do everything I can to help her, but it’s hard to make ends meet.
Evelyn is living off Social Security, which barely covers her basic needs, let alone the costs of cancer treatments, medications, and transportation to and from her doctor appointments. She has always been the one to help others, and now she needs help herself. Every day, I see her strength and determination, but I also see the worry in her eyes as the bills pile up.
If people decided to help, it would be amazing. Knowing that others care about someone they don’t even know would mean the world to us. It would show that kindness and faith are still alive, and that people do believe in helping others, just as Jesus taught. Any support you can give will help my mom focus on her health and give her hope during this difficult time.
