Jose Antonio Velez Sr.
Beloved Husband, Beloved Father, Beloved Son, Beloved Uncle, Beloved Cousin, and a Very Beloved Friend to All ️
Our Dad touched the hearts of many, from all walks of life. It really didn’t matter where you came from or how much money you had, he genuinely loved everyone for who they were flaws and all. A little background on him, he was born February 11th, 1965 he was born in Rio Piedras, PR but was raised by the mean streets of New York, the Boogie down Bronx as he would say lol. Raised by a single mom, our Strong, Tough, but Loving, Grandmother Lydia Bou alongside his siblings Mary & Victor Velez. Years later he reunited with his Dad, our hiliarious Loving Grandfather who can put a smile on so many faces along with our amazing uncles Candido Jr., Marcial, Omar & Alexis Velez.
At 18 years old he met the Love Of His Life, His Soulmate, Our Outstanding Mother Evelyn Velez, he won her heart believe it or not with Music and Dancing and of course his natural Charm of standing outside her window w the boombox and not giving up lol he was determined to win her heart. ❤️ Their Love has lasted 42+ years. This Love gave him 3 Great kids My oldest sister Melissa aka Bubu, myself Jose jr. aka Junito and my baby sister Jocelyn aka Jaci. Some years later he was made a Grandpa by the 2 greatest grandkids ever Damien & Dominick who love to call him GPD aka Grandpa Dynamite. Our Dad was funny, full of pranks and jokes, but don’t be fooled by his kindness, you mess with anyone of us and he’d go to war for us and anyone he was close to.
His friends can attest to the type of jokester/prankster, yet still charismatic, smooth, cool type of man he was. You wanted to be his friend and he wanted to be yours. One of my favorite memories of him is when we went to the Pocono's and it was karaoke night, he had his friend go on stage, holding the mic acting like they were singing but really my dad was sitting in the crowd with his own microphone on the low and was the one who was actually singing! He was the Leader of these pranks and he called it the mili vanili lol. When I was younger I also remember spending so many hours at Van Cortland Park watching my pops and mom play hand ball. He was so good too! He could cut with both hands and having his opponents running all over the court while he was right there in the middle. He had soooo many friends I can't count the amount of friends turned into family on his behalf that he would tell me “yo! That's your uncle,” I have like 30 uncles and aunts it’s crazy not even including my biological ones lol. From Mt. Hope, to 183rd and Andrews, to Mosholu Gates place, to Orlando Oakridge FL, to Kissimmee BVL!, Our father made so many people turn into family and for that I am forever grateful. Thank you for being his friends because he will always be yours.
My father was a family man always reaching out to so many of his own cousins, brothers, sister, nieces and nephews, and my whole moms side as well. Reminding them how much he loved them and just wanted to check on them and laugh with them. He was the glue in his family. Our parents love story is unlike any other, for they came out of struggle together to give us the life they never had, and they did! Theres so many people my parents adopted along the way as their own who came and lived with us for periods of time, it’s unreal how much of a giver he and our mom truly are. We all carry his legacy with us for we loved him so much and he loved us all so much the HARDEST thing to do was to ever let go.
Our father got to live his life to the fullest and everyone he ever met always got to have their own 1 on 1 personal relationship with him that made you feel special and he was so genuine with that. In these times we only ask for help to ease the burden on my mom as we put him to rest properly like he deserves. Any help you offer is more than appreciated and goes only to that. He helped so many people im sure you guys all that know him, know that. And for anyone who doesn't know him I appreciate you even reading a glimpse of his story.
Thank you whole heartedly to everyone from my family to yours we love all you guys and any help big or small is greatly appreciated.
WE LOVE YOU PA! I’d like to think that you are up in heaven right now hanging out with all our loved ones we lost and I will meet you there and see you again one day. You will forever be in our hearts and I will carry on your name with strength and purpose. Rest in paradise Pa!
