My name is Jesse and I am making a short film with my friend Eve!
I met Eve five years ago when we collaborated on a project for the Trans Day of Visibility at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. She read one of her stories aloud and I was swept away. Eve is a powerful writer and it was easy to envision her stories on film. Five years later, I proposed the idea of a film to Eve (she agreed), I applied for a grant, and here we are! We're making a film!
This film is poetic and artful, it's about the journey of loving one's self, and it is also inextricably tied to social justice. Our film celebrates Eve's life, her experiences, her point of view and how her voice enhances that diversity of the world we live in. Trans people are scrutinized, judged and targeted daily, which makes our work feel that much more important. Eve is a dream to work with, she is a creative gold mine, she has great ideas and a wonderful sense of humor, and I am honored to be trusted with this work that feels more important than ever right now.
We have been awarded a grant through the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture and are officially off and running! We have the money to start the film and are asking for your help pushing our film across the finish line.
About the project:
The film is based on a series of brilliant short stories Eve wrote about coming out and living as a trans woman in the Pacific Northwest. Our film aspires to elevate trans voices, build community, celebrate diversity, and to nurture of self-expression and self-love. We hope to screen the short film at film festivals, community events, cultural and arts venues, and online, and intend to offer screenings for free.
In addition to film festivals, we hope to present facilitated screenings at community spaces, art spaces, and in partnership with cultural/arts venues who serve underserved communities and beyond.
We appreciate your support and cannot wait to share Eve's stories!
