Hi everyone!
As most of you may know, I have been struggling with extensive GI issues these past several months. I have always had IBS, which was mostly managed through diet and lifestyle changes. Unfortunately, this past February, I contracted a virus which largely targeted my GI system due to already having IBS.
Since then, I have experienced debilitating symptoms. I visited the ER multiple times during my last semester at Temple and would return the next day for classes if possible. I had to fight for accommodations to participate in my classes online, forfeit my EMT certification, and much more. I am tremendously grateful I was able to graduate on time after being told to take a medical leave by multiple professors and staff.
Upon returning home after graduation, I have had extensive testing. This includes ER visits, CT scan, ultrasound, colonoscopy, endoscopy, internal biopsies, multiple rounds of blood work, and much more. I have also met with numerous doctors such as my nutritionist, pancreatic specialist, and multiple GI doctors. These have all been extremely costly. I was misdiagnosed with a condition for a few months due to my pancreas not fully functioning at first, causing me to take multiple enzyme pills with every meal and snack every day. I am currently dealing with malabsorption and maldigestion, affecting my ability to properly absorb nutrients from my food.
While my pancreas has recently returned to normal and I am very slowly recovering, the medical bills have been extensive. I have been left unable to work the past several months as I am unreliable due to my symptoms and constant appointments. I will continue to see more doctors over the next few months and receive more tests/treatment. My symptoms have recently worsened again and we are working to see a new GI doctor. My parents are hard working self-employed business owners and have been doing everything they can for me.
I plan to use the funds to help alleviate some of the medical expenses and my inability to have a job right now. I heavily debated on making this for a while but would appreciate any help — whether it’s sharing, donations, or just your support! I understand everyone has their own needs to be met. Thank you for reading. ❤️
