Like so many of you, the Robinsons are a family I love dearly. On Monday, March 25th, they experienced every parent's worst fear. The initial trauma has passed, and now they need a community to rally around them as they work to support Evangeline's full and complete healing.
On Monday morning, Heather and Justin woke up to Evangeline having a tonic-clonic seizure lasting over nine minutes. Evangeline was initially transported by ambulance to Children’s Mercy Overland Park, where she was intubated and given multiple tests. From there she was transferred to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City where she was admitted to the pediatric ICU.
On Tuesday, her EEG showed very concerning brain waves and was followed up with more tests. Justin and Heather reached out for urgent prayer from friends and family, asking God for Evangeline's healing.
On Thursday, her EEG showed amazing improvement in her brain waves- improvement that doctors said was not fully explained by the treatment in the hospital. So many people were praying for Evangeline and it truly made a difference!
Evangeline was released from the hospital and is now recovering at home. She will still receive follow-up care for at least the next six months, including repeat EEGs, further specialized testing, and medication management. Her parents are hopeful that she will experience continued healing during this time.
While Evangeline received wonderful care and benefited from insurance, there are still many expenses that were outside her coverage limits. Much of her treatment was and will be out-of-network. Time taken off of work for the initial hospitalization and future follow-up appointments, deductibles, medications, and other necessary therapies are not covered. It's my hope that as a community of people who love the Robinson family, we will be able to raise funds that will help them and lift the burden while they focus on taking care of Evangeline.
