Altadena Fire Relief for Evan and Vickie
Hello, friends. This is Susan/Susie Hixon (hometown Altadena, CA). I'm here to introduce you to two of my favorite people, Uncle Evan and Aunt Vickie. They are pillars in our family and in our community. Evan is a retired high school chemistry teacher. He plays the autoharp and is a big fan of tie-dye! Vickie held City of Hope together with decades of service and is currently on the board of Lincoln Avenue Water Co. Local folks may have met Evan and/or Vickie at Altadena Town Council and Altadena Heritage meetings, the library’s used book sales or walking the streets of Altadena, as they so frequently did.
Evan, AKA Uncle Piggy-Back, may still offer to teach you how to play the ukulele one day, but in this moment, they are facing UTTER LOSS. Like so many, Uncle Evan and Aunt Vickie lost their home and everything in it. The power went out on Tuesday night, knocked out their WiFi and, with our iffy cell service, they did not get the evacuation notice until 3am.
They are safe at temporary accommodations in Claremont... but what comes next is a complete mystery. Waiting to rebuild would likely mean many years of uncertainty. Vickie and Evan may have to leave this amazing community they helped build. Please consider making a contribution to help them cover the unexpected, unreasonable costs that we know are heading towards them. Let’s show them that they are not alone! LOVE wins.
