Hi everyone!
My name is Eva Barry, a 16-year-old wrestler from Newton, NJ. I am proud to represent Newton High School and the Cordoba Trained Wrestling Club. Over the spring, I competed and won the Northeast Regional Tournament, which qualified me to represent Team New Jersey at the Junior National tournament to be held in Fargo, North Dakota in July.
Since the age of 10, wrestling has been a significant part of my life. Over the years, I have achieved several milestones, including 2nd Place in the NJ High School Girls State Tournament (2024), Champion at the Northeast Regional Freestyle Championships at 138 lbs, and serving as the Captain of the Newton High School wrestling team. I have also received several high school wrestling awards, including the Coaches Award, Tough as Nails Award, Most Pins, Most Takedowns, Most Team Points, and Most Valuable Wrestler. In addition to my wrestling accomplishments, I maintain a 4.7 GPA (ranked 3rd in my class), qualified to compete in nationals for FBLA, and represented Newton High School at the NJ HOBY Leadership Conference.
Balancing athletics, academics, family, and work requires a rigorous schedule. I weight lift six days a week, do cardio workouts daily, and attend regular practices and private sessions. Despite my demanding training routine, I excel in my academics, work part-time in a deli to support my training and education, and manage family responsibilities. Wrestling has taught me resilience, discipline, and the importance of hard work, especially as I overcame the loss of a parent. These experiences have shaped who I am and fueled my determination to succeed despite any obstacles.
My immediate goal is to become an All-American at the Junior National tournament, also known as "Fargo.” Fargo is one of the most prestigious events for high school wrestlers in the United States. Held annually, it brings together the top wrestlers from across the country to compete at the highest level. Earning All-American status at this event is a significant achievement that can open doors to college scholarships and further opportunities in the sport. Competing and succeeding at Fargo is a crucial step in my wrestling career and a milestone towards my long-term goals of winning the NJ State Title, becoming a National Champion in college, and eventually representing the United States in the Olympics.
Achieving these goals comes with significant financial challenges. Competing in Fargo involves qualifying events, training camps, airfare, gear, and lodging, bringing the total cost to approximately $3,000. Your support will help cover training fees, ensuring I have access to the best coaching and facilities, and travel expenses for competing in regional and national tournaments.
I am incredibly grateful for any support you can provide. Every donation, no matter the size, brings me one step closer to achieving my dreams. My favorite quotes that keep me motivated are: “You don’t deserve anything you don’t earn” and “Everything happens for a reason.”Thank you for taking the time to read my story. With your help, I know I can reach new heights and make my dreams a reality.
Thank you,
Eva Barry
