This is a post I never imagined I’d have to make, but it has become a necessary one.
My sister Ethel is one of the strongest, most loving people I know. She is not just a sister, but a dedicated wife and a wonderful mother to her two young daughters. Her whole world is focused on giving them a bright future.
Just two months ago, Ethel began experiencing pain in her lower abdomen. At first, she brushed it off and continued her day-to-day life. But the pain grew worse and never went away. Eventually, she could barely stand up from a chair without unbearable discomfort.
Ethel finally went to the ER, where scans revealed a 9.5 cm ovarian cyst (ruptured). The ER doctor showed major concerns that it could potentially be cancerous and spreading due to signs of fluid buildup in the abdomen. She was then referred to a gynecologic oncologist. The specialist immediately scheduled a laparoscopy, biopsies, and draining of fluid buildup to determine what was going on.
Ethel has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, specifically Ovarian Dysgerminoma.
On Saturday, November 15th, she had surgery to remove a grapefruit-sized cyst on her left ovary, and that’s when the cancer was discovered. Her right ovary and fallopian tube were also surgically removed as well.
We’re raising funds to help her cover the cost of her chemotherapy treatment and immune system medications alongside the at-home adjustments that will need to be made in this next chapter. If anyone is able to offer anything to help during this trying time, our family would be beyond grateful. I will update this page as her treatment progresses. Again, any little bit would help immensely.
In the upcoming weeks, she will begin chemotherapy to continue fighting the fight against cancer. Although this is a scary time beginning a new and unknown journey, we are very optimistic that she will achieve complete remission and beat this cancer completely. Nothing will ever stop her.
Ethel is immensely grateful for the outpouring of love and positivity she has already received from friends and loved ones near and far. Please continue to keep Ethel in your prayers and thoughts. As she has shared with many of us: “I got this!” Let’s show her that there’s a community that loves, supports, and is cheering her on and believing in her recovery.
Thank you for your kind hearts and let’s give Ethel all the motivation she needs!
