As many of you know a 12-year-old named Ethan was hit by a vehicle in our neighborhood, Copper Basin in San Tan Valley, AZ on 8/10/26 while riding a foot push scooter. The driver fled the scene like a coward leaving Ethan lying there on the burning asphalt screaming in pain. Thankfully the suspect was apprehended by Pinal County Sheriffs Office. HUGE shout out to them! Ethan is currently in a medically induced coma due to the very extensive injuries he suffered. Although he is expected to pull through, there will be multiple procedures/surgeries and I suspect quite a bit of long-term care. Many have asked how they can help as Ethan's mom has three other children at home to help care for but needs to remain by Ethan's side during this critical time. In doing so there will be financial challenges both immediate and ongoing that we would like to help soften the blow of.
The hospitalization duration is unknown at this time but that is a small part of the battle Ethan will be facing as he learns to live life in a completely different way. Ethan didn’t ask for this, he didn’t ask to be hit by a car. He didn’t ask for a grown man to leave him to die. When you look at the life in Ethan’s eyes you can see his kindness and zest. We hope that feeling the support of the entire community will help keep that alive in him as he faces a very challenging journey. Ethan’s mom was barely able to muster words through her tears to me when trying to explain how overwhelmed her heart has been thanks to the support everyone has been sending. How it’s renewed her faith in mankind to see how many truly kind and compassionate people there still are right here in her backyard when you see so much negativity and evil online and in the world.
If you cannot donate we understand, many people are struggling to put food on the tables but you can still help this family. Sharing this lets more people see it and if you would like to make a homemade get well soon card it would really help keep the spirits up of everyone involved! Especially Ethan when he gets to wake up. Ethan is into baseball and loves the Dodgers, Yankees and of course the Diamondbacks! He also likes electric dirt bikes, soccer, Roblox and Fortnite for some decorative ideas. These cards can be dropped off at the Copper Basin Family Gym/Community Center at 28300 N Main St, San Tan Valley, AZ 85143 or at Academy Bank in Queen Creek M-F from 9am-5pm. 37724 N. Gantzel Rd #104 Queen Creek, AZ 85140. We have also added another drop off point close to Power and Riggs. Get Well Cards and gifts can be dropped off on the table by the garage from 7am-8pm.
26037 S Valencia Ave, Queen Creek AZ 85142. Thank you for taking the time to read this and we will post updates on Ethan (hopefully) Daily.
UPDATE #1 - Ethan is doing well considering literally getting hit by a truck. His current injuries include concussion, multiple fractured ribs, a chest to placed due to the sack around his left lung filling with blood, multiple fractures on his pelvis, his femur was broken in half, bruising covering most of his back and almost all of his left side as well as road rash and actual BURNS from being left laying on boiling hot asphalt!! He had surgery to repair a broken femur on 8/11. He is still on the ventilator and hoping that will change soon. The support this family has received has been astonishing! You all are giving her the strength to be there for Ethan, the encouragement that things will get better and the Faith that this too shall pass! Thank you for stepping up and being their Village!
UPDATE #2 - 8/15 - ETHAN IS OFF THE VENTILATOR!!! He is breathing on his own and even muttering words. It’s such a testament to the importance of a strong medical team! Thank you to the PICU team at Banner Desert. Unfortunately the tube that is pulling the fluid and gunk from his lung remains as Ethan developed pneumonia from the severity of damage and may need surgery on his lung but we are just grateful he is making progress!! Tyra did an interview with FOX10 News and they did identify the person behind the wheel. You can watch the interview at the link below. Ethan’s family continues to put faith in PCSO and Pinal County Attorney's Office to handle the case and do not wish for people to “grab their torches” no matter how evil and heartless his choice was. The focus should remain on Ethan and the best way you can truly help him is sharing this post!! Since Facebook deleted the original we’re starting at Square one to gather awareness and engagement so the algorithm continues to put it in front of people. Basically we lost 150,000 views in an instant. . I will continue to update this exact post so you can follow me to find it again or save the link and check back in for those updates on his status.
Many of you have asked about ways to help the siblings so I got a list of some things they like if anybody feels so inclined.

Lastly, we will be doing a fundraiser at Geno's Giant Slice on 8/30 in San Tan Valley with proceeds of sales going to Ethan’s care. Geno’s always shows up for their community and the owner has such a big heart. You should consider making them your everyday pizza place. You can by tickets at the event for the chance to win a prize. If your a local business that would like to donate an item please PM me or text me at [phone redacted]. I cannot appropriately articulate how grateful we all are for the support that has come in through the meal train and the GoFundMe! It’s just mind blowing to see so many people who have such kind hearts. We wish we could hug everyone of you personally.
