Hello, My name is Ethan Topliss. I'm an upcoming freshman at Oak Ridge High School and this will be my first year in NJROTC (Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp). In December, I'll have the unique opportunity to travel with my group to Hawaii for the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade. This trip is especially close to my heart as my maternal great, great- grandfather, Army Colonel Dr. Joseph A. Belz, was stationed there at the time of the bombing. My grandmother, MaryJo, her 2 sisters and their mother were soon picked up by a military truck and taken to safety and eventually, weeks later, returned to the mainland. I would love to have this chance to honor the memory of my great, great- grandfather along with the other brave service members who fought for the country that I love.

For me to attend this event, I must personally raise $3,000. This cost includes airfare, hotel, parade entry fee, ground transportation in Hawaii, entry fees to attractions, and most meals. Our unit has been performing various fundraisers over the past few years, but because I am new to the program, I haven't yet been able to participate in any fundraisers, and I must rely heavily on community support and donations.
