I am starting this fundraiser on behalf of an incredible young man, Ethan, and the Overby family as they face an unimaginable situation.
While on spring break in Mexico, Ethan—a college junior at Virginia Commonwealth University and a leader on the Sigma Chi Fraternity Executive Board—was involved in a devastating accident. He suffered severe injuries and lost a significant amount of blood. In order to save his life, doctors had to amputate his leg.
Due to the severity of his condition, he was not stable enough to travel on a commercial flight back to the United States. His family had to quickly arrange an emergency medical charter flight from Mexico to Miami so he could receive the care he needed closer to home. Once he is stable enough in Miami, he will have to be transported by ambulance all the way to Yorktown, Virginia, to reunite with his family and continue treatment.
These emergency medical transport costs—along with the care that lies ahead—are incredibly significant and unexpected. As the family focuses on supporting him through surgeries, recovery, and the long rehabilitation process ahead, the financial burden from these emergency arrangements has become overwhelming.
This young man has always been driven, compassionate, and committed to serving something greater than himself through his ROTC training. Even in the face of this life-altering injury, he is showing remarkable courage and determination.
The road ahead will include extensive medical care, rehabilitation, and eventually a prosthetic limb. His family will be by his side every step of the way, but they could truly use the support of their community.
If you are able, please consider donating to help offset the costs of the emergency medical flight, ground transport, and ongoing recovery expenses. Any contribution—no matter the size—will make a meaningful difference for this family during an incredibly difficult time.
If you cannot donate, sharing this fundraiser and keeping him and his family in your thoughts and prayers would mean so much.
Thank you for supporting this brave young man and helping his family focus on what matters most: his healing and recovery.
