On May 26th I was hospitalized with severe preeclampsia, a condition that causes dangerously high blood pressure in pregnant people. The next day, Ethan and I found out that I would be hospitalized until our son was induced at 34 weeks.

34 weeks has dwindled to 32 weeks and now at 27 weeks, we’re lucky every day that my blood pressure and health allow me to stay pregnant. This means that our son will be staying in the NICU for the beginning of his life, which is one of the hardest things to come to terms with as his parents. He will be born prematurely which means that it will be a long, expensive road ahead of us.

We love our son so much already and we can’t believe this is how the end of my pregnancy and beginning of our journey as a family has turned out. We are humbly asking for any help we can get to help offset his care at the NICU and other medical costs associated with making sure that we can bring home a healthy, happy boy when he is strong enough.

update: Ziggy is back in the hospital. This time for respiratory distress due to his recent diagnosis of being positive for Covid. He was hospitalized on Friday the 13th, exactly one month after he was released from the NICU. I’m trying to muster up any strength I’ve regained after our NICU journey to stay strong and positive for Ziggy, but as you can imagine this is not what we anticipated or hoped for after his tenure at the NICU. As hospital bills flood in from our nearly half a million dollar NICU stay, and now with this most recent hospitalization Ethan and I are just trying to keep up.
