Support Esteban’s Road to Recovery

Hi everyone, my name is Mar Lagunas and I’m a close friend of Esteban A. Carranza. I’m starting this fundraiser to support him as he prepares for a significant health challenge.

Recently, we received some staggering news. Esteban has been diagnosed with liposarcoma, a rare cancer. Doctors believe a large tumor has been growing in his abdomen for 5 to 10 years, slowly displacing his organs. On May 26th, he will undergo a massive, complex surgery to remove the tumor. While we are optimistic about the surgery, the recovery process will be long and will require him to step away from work and focus entirely on healing.

We are raising funds to help cover the costs of medical expenses, specialized post-operative care, and daily living expenses during his recovery period. Our goal is to ensure that Esteban can focus on getting back on his feet without the added weight of financial stress.

For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of knowing Esteban personally, he is the definition of a 'big brother,’ not just to his own younger brother and sister, but to every friend he meets. He is hardworking, honest, and has spent his life looking out for others.
Whether he’s in his role as a community advocate, connecting immigrant families in Chicago to vital resources, or operating a freight elevator, Esteban’s work ethic is unmatched. He’s been working since he was 18, and even with two jobs, he is the first person to invite you over for a meal or a movie. He is a consistent, reliable, and deeply empathetic man who is much more used to being the one helping than the one asking for help.

Because Esteban is DACAmented, he isn't eligible for the federal support systems or benefits that usually assist in a medical crisis. This makes our collective support essential to ensuring he has a safe place to land while he heals.

As he prepares for surgery this May 26th and his 33rd birthday on July 5th, we want to show him the same care and reliability he has shown all of us for years.

Any monetary amount of support goes a long way to supporting our brother and friend, and if you cannot offer financial support please consider sharing the link to donate, spreading the word to other friends and family, and reaching out personally with words of affirmation, love, encouragement and support.

  • Please consider sending him money directly through Zelle to his email ecarranza12364 at yahoo dot com (had to write it out because the site will redact it) (Text me for the email if you want)
  • Feel free to reach out to me if you want to coordinate another kind of support (meal trains, grocery drop-offs, rides, check-ins, etc) (seven zero eight)two six two - two seven six six

The total goal for the fund is $40,000
