Support Esteban Cano

Dear friends,

On January 8th, my 15-year-old son, Esteban Cano Herdoiza, was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. This chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract causes intense abdominal pain, intestinal bleeding, infections, and an inability to absorb nutrients, among other complications.

Esteban requires biological therapy to manage the excruciating pain and avoid further health complications. However, this treatment is costly in Ecuador, where we live. His monthly treatment involves hospitalization for intravenous infusions of INFLIXIMAB, which costs around $2,300 per drip. As this treatment is not widely available in public hospitals, we have to go to a private hospital, which means the monthly cost for biological therapy is around $3,500. This does not include countless blood tests, doctor’s appointments, and visits to the emergency room.

As a single mother and the sole provider for my family, finding the funds to cover my son’s treatment has been challenging. Seeing my son in unbearable pain breaks my heart, and I feel desperate and helpless. That’s why I’m asking you to please consider donating. We would be forever grateful for any help we can get.

I would like to begin by expressing my gratitude for all the love and support you have given us over the past few months. Your kindness has helped us immensely; Esteban would not have been able to receive the medical attention he needs without your immense generosity. We are incredibly grateful to all of you.

As you know, covering the treatment and medical expenses to keep Esteban stable has been and continues to be challenging. Unfortunately, we were recently informed he needs a costly medical exam to prevent his condition from worsening. So, I am asking you to please consider helping us give Esteban the medical treatment he needs.
