Espie was discovered near death in a parking lot on a hot Austin day. She was rushed to the emergency vet where she spent 24 hours in critical condition. She had severe lacerations all over her body, a slashed upper lip, broken teeth and bones along the roof of her mouth, and a mangled paw and tail. She was severely dehydrated and malnourished.
She made it through the night and once she was stable, was sent to a vet dental specialist. He operated on her mouth and sent her to her foster mom’s to heal.
Named Esperanza, the word for hope in Spanish, the four-month-old has not stopped purring. Her mouth is still healing, and she will likely need more surgery once her permanent teeth are in place. Her lacerations have healed nicely. She is still not putting any weight on her front paw. The vet believes it is nerve damage and time will tell if it heals.
Espie’s vet bills are very high. Her foster mom volunteers for a local shelter in Austin, but they will not take care of Espie because she is considered a stray. This leaves all of the bills with her foster mom.
Money raised will go directly to Espie’s veterinary bills. Her foster mom is happy to send anyone the vet statements for verification if needed. Thank you!
