A Call for Support: SAVING MY HUSBAND ERNEST HANKINS

I am starting this page as I am fighting, hoping, praying, and believing, that God has another victory in store for my husband and our family.

Our Story

In July 1999, Ernest and I solidified what God had joined together and became one in holy matrimony. Our relationship has been one filled with God’s mercies and grace. We, through our faith in God have ridden on the high places of our life’s experiences and toiled tirelessly through valleys life has presented us.

We were blessed with two beautiful children who are now college age and soaring as high as God’s will takes them. We were privileged to move from Detroit to Kentucky and subsequently Alabama. Over the last decade or so, I was able to finish my Doctorate in Music and begin an undergraduate teaching career at Oakwood University.

In that time, God has shown His favor in our health as well. I had my tonsils removed. Both of us lost our mothers: Gertis and Gwendolyn. My husband had his leg amputated. And 13 months ago, God ransomed Ernest from a stroke which left him paralyzed amongst other life-changing medical conditions.

As a family, we have committed ourselves to ensure Ernest has compassionate, quality care during this critical period of recovery. This has meant sacrificing family vacations, new clothes, any luxuries (and some necessities) and all our family savings. Iman, EJ, and I dedicate all our current earnings to his care.

In the last 2 weeks, the supports from my insurance have been fully exhausted. The good news is that in about 2 months, Medicare will kick in and start paying for most of the medical care that is needed. Yet the around the clock skilled care must come out- of- pocket at a cost of no less than $25.00 per hour while I work. This does not include the cost of medical supplies. Fortunately, we have applied for a program here in Alabama that will place us in a Medicare Waiver program in about 6 months time. This program will take the burden of out-of-pocket expenses off our shoulders. There is nothing we can do to push the application process ahead any faster than the state of Alabama moves. So, in the interim, we must find a way to finance $50,000 worth of care.

How we can save him together. . .

Having exhausted all current options, we must fund his skilled care on our own. We cannot do this without your help, which is why I am here to ask for your support in three ways:

First and most important: PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY!!! We have seen God’s favor though all of this and KNOW that he will make provision again to take care of his own.

Second: Please consider donating. No gift is too small. $1000 covers roughly one week of care. $25 dollars roughly covers one hour of care.

Three: Please share our humble plea with friends and family far and wide. We need YOUR support and the networks that support you!

THANK YOU

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I know that everyone has myriad challenges and responsibilities that make sharing resources difficult. But I still believe GOD. We have not because we ask not. And our God can do all things but fail – He always does exceedingly above that which we think or ask.

Join me as I watch God work another miracle in our lives.

Please note: Any extra money raised will be donated to the Health Ministry of First SDA Church in Huntsville, AL. https://firstsdachurch.com/ministries/
