Hi friends,
Erin was recently diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL)—a rare and aggressive form of leukemia. As an extremely active and healthy 31-year-old, this diagnosis came completely out of the blue.
It all began the day after Christmas when Erin developed inflammation around his wisdom teeth. Like many of us would, he assumed it was a dental issue and paid out of pocket to have a wisdom tooth removed. Despite antibiotics, then steroids, his symptoms only worsened. More pain, another tooth removed, more antibiotics—and still no answers.
After weeks of pushing through and a lot of (well-earned) nagging, Erin finally went to urgent care. We were told he was “fine” and that it was probably just the medications. Still concerned, he requested full bloodwork.
The next day, everything changed.
Erin received an urgent call instructing him to go straight to the ER for an immediate blood transfusion. His hemoglobin was critically low (5.5), and his white blood cell count was dangerously high (46,000). After extensive testing, doctors confirmed our worst fear: Erin has cancer—leukemia, specifically APL.
He was admitted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa and transferred the following day to Moffitt Cancer Center, where he will remain inpatient for 4–6 weeks undergoing intensive treatment. His medical team has been incredible, but the road ahead is long.
Erin has a big heart with a lot of love to give, and this diagnosis only strengthened that. He love giving to others and never asks for help. Unfortunately, with reduced work hours and mounting medical expenses, we are now facing significant financial strain. We created this GoFundMe to help cover medical bills, lost income, and basic living expenses during treatment and recovery.
We’ve since learned that APL, while extremely rare, is caused by a random genetic mutation. No warning. No prevention. Just life changing in an instant.
Thank you for your love, support, and kindness—it truly carries us through.
